Golf at Sandy Lane
For avid golfers Sandy Lane offers plenty of opportunity to work that handicap, with three golf courses, spanning endless acres of lush, rolling green and enjoying magnificent views of the surrounding Caribbean Sea or sweeping landscape. Since its inception the estate has been known for its championship courses and is widely recognised as one of the worlds premiere destinations for golfing. Of course residents of the Sandy Lane estate need to pay their green fees just as any other guests do.
Residents of Sandy Lane Estate do benefit, however, from reduced green fees at The Old Nine, the estate’s oldest course, which has been played since the hotel was originally established in 1961. At 3,345 yards, par 36 The Old Nine's tight, tree lined fairways meander through the estate and present an enjoyable yet demanding round. With its extensive history many have an emotional connection with The Old Nine, making it a favourite with residents of the Sandy Lane estate.
The Green Monkey, designed by Tom Fazio, offers an ultra-exclusive 18 hole, 72 par experience. It has been attentively crafted from an old limestone quarry. You will experience imposing exposed rock faces which dramatically contrast with the lush, rolling greens of the fairways and can relish the challenging change in gradient. Green Monkey is often described as the 'must play' Caribbean golf course.
With lush greens, five lakes and immaculately cut fairways, the Country Club course is a golfer's paradise. Also designed by Tom Fazio, this challenging 72 par, 7,060-yard course affords breath-taking views of the Caribbean Sea and in 2006 played host to the Golfing Championship of Barbados World Cup.
Finished with all of the amenities one could require after an adrenaline rich game Sandy Lane's spacious, classically decedent Clubhouse provides a perfect setting in which to refresh and unwind and serves a tasty selection of drinks and light bites accompanied by magnificent views of the 18th hole.
When playing Green Monkey or The Country Club GPS fitted golf carts are included for your use. In addition to advising on current location and how best to play each hole the high specification golf cart system can be used to order light refreshments during your round. Club and Shoe hire is available to all guest golfers at Sandy Lane at an additional charge.
Of course there are other spectacular golf courses just a short drive away from the Sandy Lane estate and you might want to try playing up at Royal Westmoreland or Apes Hill.
